Silavalentine
Nanang Rakhmat Hidayat, S.sn.
SILAVALENTINE
Nanang Rakhmat Hidayat, S.sn. HDII was a student of geothermic at the UPN Yogyakarta Faculty of Petroleum from 1985 to 88. He then shifted to ISI Yogyakarta to study interior design. He graduated in 1994.
Before that, he was often involved in interior design planning in Indonesia and abroad. He also conducted research, one with the title “Audiovisuals as an alternative teaching method for autism” (ISI, 2001).
At the end of April 2003, Nanang started his “hunt” for the Garuda Eagles for photography exhibitions at the national museum (Jakarta, May 10, 2003). From this developed his visual arts experience, his understanding for history and admiration for and interest in who really designed the Garuda as a national symbol for the Indonesian Republic.
Nanang’s work resulted in a book with information, references and photography of the Garuda Pancasila. Published in 2008, the book “Mencari Telur Garuda” (Searching for eggs of the Garuda) discusses the origins of our country’s national symbol. (Pancasila is the official foundation of the Indonesian state. It comprises of five inseparable and interrelated principles.)
This time Nanang chooses, through his artwork, to correlate Valentine day and the second principle of the Pancasila, which strives for a just and civilized humanity. The connection with Valentine can be found in how this second principle basically explains love in all its aspects.
At the opening Nanang will also perform a cooking demonstration placing Garuda eggs on the ViaVia menu. By frying these eggs Nanang brings the pancaslia to ViaVia, a meeting place for a diverse audience with true bhinneka (diversity) with no restrictions on race, religion, tribe and nationality.
